Mobilizing For Victory: 2012
AFGE-PAC holds members of Congress accountable for their votes. Throughout the year, AFGE-PAC contributes to the re-election of lawmakers who have a track record of supporting federal employees, both Democrats and Republicans. And AFGE-PAC contributes to candidates who are running against incumbent lawmakers who don't support us. Your AFGE-PAC contributions help AFGE build political clout on Capitol Hill as key legislation moves through Congress and they help us elect candidates who value the work of federal employees.
AFGE's ability to move a pro-federal employee legislative agenda depends on our ability to build AFGE-PAC. That's why our PAC fundraising goal is $1 million in 2007 and $1 million in 2008. We need every AFGE Local President, Executive Board member, Steward and activist to contribute to AFGE-PAC. If you want political clout you have to contribute to making it happen!
Another way to work things legislatively is to ensure that your local and Council contribute to the AFGE LAF. Each AFGE Local and Council is encouraged to contribute $2 per active member to AFGE's LAF. Money from the LAF Fund is then used to provide AFGE members with legislative and political education materials as well as assistance in training and mobilizing AFGE members to conduct grassroots lobbying and political action activities. LAF funds are NOT used for activities directly aimed at the election or defeat of a specific candidate.
Part of being successful at legislative activity is understanding how the Congress works, and particularly how the budgeting process works.
